About Dental Implants

Implants offer a permanent solution for missing teeth. They are titanium screws which are placed into the jawbone and function in a similar way to the root of a natural tooth. Once the screw has integrated with the surrounding bone, then it can act as the foundation for a crown, bridge or denture. Implant surgery is carried out by our implantologist Hesham Emam.

Suitability for an implant depends on if you have enough bone and if it is dense enough. This can be determined through X-rays and CT scans, which are done here in the practice. Certain medical conditions and social habits, such as smoking, can affect your suitability for dental implants; these will be discussed in your initial consultation to determine suitability.

Benefits of Dental Implants

  • Implants are a natural looking and functional solution for missing teeth.
  • After an extraction, the jawbone shrinks as it heals. Dental implants stimulate the jawbone, like natural teeth, to prevent this bone loss and preserve the facial bone and shape.
  • Implants do not compromise the neighbouring teeth, unlike conventional bridges.
  • With the proper aftercare and a good oral hygiene regime, implants can last many years.

Single Implant

A single implant can act as the foundation for a crown and is a great way to replace a single missing tooth.

Two Implants

Two or more implants allow a bridge to be placed. An excellent choice when you have a gap caused by multiple missing teeth.

Implant Supported Denture

If you find a conventional denture uncomfortable and frustrating to wear, then an implant retained/supported denture could be an excellent choice for you.

Implant retained denture – These dentures are fixed and only removable by a dentist. This provides a highly stable restoration that closely resembles natural teeth. The secured denture won’t slip, move or cause discomfort, and the force of your bite is absorbed by the jawbone, preventing gum soreness and improving function.

Implant supported denture – This option requires fewer implants that support a removable denture that snaps into place. The denture is removed for cleaning, just like a traditional denture. Implant support dentures are a great option to improve confidence, function and maintain facial shape without the irritation that a traditional denture can sometimes cause.
